Root Canal at J. Steve Morton DDS, PC

Save Your Teeth from Brink with Root Canal Treatment

A root canal treatment (RCT), also called endodontic therapy, is a procedure to save a tooth which is severely damaged involving the pulpal tissue within. It is done by removing damaged tissue followed by cleaning and disinfecting the area inside the tooth and its roots, and then sealing it to prevent infection.

Root Canal Alert: Signs You Need Dental Intervention

Deep cavities, cracked teeth, or problems with old fillings can all lead to infections that require RCT. Don’t ignore if you have the following signs which indicate the need for an RCT:

  • Damaged or cracked tooth
  • Severe discomfort while chewing
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Persistent sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Deep dental decay and gum discoloration
  • Blister on gums
  • Swelling in jaws or face

A Closer Look at the Procedure

RCT is a procedure to save infected or damaged teeth. Before the procedure, our dentist will examine your tooth using X-rays, sensitivity tests, and a bite test to determine the possibility for RCT. During the procedure, they’ll numb the area to remove the infected pulp from the tooth and then they will clean and fill the root canals with a biocompatible material like gutta-percha. Finally, a dental crown will be placed on the treated tooth.
